Based on 49,455 user benchmarks.  Device: BFEBFBFF000906EC Model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz

Intel’s Core i7-9700K is an unlocked 9th generation CPU, released alongside the i5-9600K and the i9-9900K. The 9700K is an 8 core, 8 thread processor based on the third iteration of Intel’s 14nm Coffee Lake architecture, which sees an increase in the number of cores available to mainstream consumers, in line with AMD’s Ryzen 7 offerings. The 9700K features 12 MB of cache, a 95W TDP and Intel UHD graphics 630. And like the other 9th generation chips, it is compatible with Intel’s new Z390 chipset as well as last years Z370 chipset (with an updated BIOS). The 9700K has a base frequency of 3.6 GHz, rising to 4.6 GHz when all 8 cores are engaged and a single core boost frequency of 4.9 GHz (compared to 3.6 GHz, 4.7 GHz and 5.0 GHz for the flagship 9900K). This translates to similar single and quad core performance to the 9900K, but due to the higher number of threads, the 9900K has around a 50% higher multi-core benchmark than the 9700K. Currently most PC games do not engage more than 4 cores, so at $420 (15% cheaper than the 9900K), the 9700K offers better value for money to gamers. If instead, great multi-core performance is a necessity, at $290, the 8 core 16 thread Ryzen 7 2700X is a more prudent choice, with a 30% higher multi-core benchmark than the 9700K.  [Oct '18 CPUPro]

9th generation Coffee Lake processor...

No real improvment in performance compared to 8700k, with much higher pricetag

Excellent

Perfect for high end gaming. Doesn't bottleneck on anything

Good

8 cores without HT? Must be a joke.

Poor

Because of the overheating problem, and it doesn't perform better than 8700k at same clock speeds.

Good

It does great, super fast processor as well as my first processor for my first ever custom PC! XD

Good

Despite offering similar performance to the i7-8700K, thanks to the soldered thermal interface and lack of hyper-threading, this CPU has better overclocking potential.

Poor

Better gaming performance, better motherboards, better features.

Poor

This is a i7 8700K with 2 more cores, although in actual multi-core performance they are nearly identical. This is pretty much a rebrand and it has the same multi-core performance thanks to the 8700K's 12 threads compared to 8. Rebrand crap.

Good

The cooling issue from previous generations is finally solved, and it's also gotten 8 cores now. Price is still a thing that has to be improved, but it definitely competes with AMD's Ryzen line-up.

price SUCKS

Poor

It does not seem to give a noticeable improvement over the 8700k.

Poor

Come on, Intel. I usually choose you over AMD, but don't push me too far. Double the price for less threads and a wimpy performance gain? I don't think so.

Terrible

No hyperthreding

Poor

The fact that they laucnhed it at a higher price than the 8700ks average launch price and the removal of Hyperthreading makes me question this "i7" in its name.
