Average Bench: 87.9% (37th of 1206)

Based on 139,193 user benchmarks.  Device: 178BFBFF00870F10 Model: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor

AMD’s Ryzen 5 3600 is a 6-core, 12-threaded processor that is priced at $190 USD and succeeds the Ryzen 5 2600 improving upon it by 13% in terms of overclocked performance. The 3600 is in competition with Intel’s 6-core i5-9600K. AMD continues to push the multi-core performance envelope: benchmarks show that the 3600 has a 27% overclocked 64-core lead over the 9600K but that the i5-9600K leads by 14% on single to hex core workloads which translates to 10% higher EFps in most of the today’s top games (e.g. PUBG, GTAV and CSGO). Additionally, the 3600's memory controller, although significantly improved over previous Ryzen iterations, still has limited bandwidth and high latency which adversely impacts gaming. Weaknesses in memory architecture are not readily picked up by CPU benchmarks but they are apparent whilst gaming. Cheaper CPUs such as the 9400F deliver better gaming performance in nearly all of today’s popular games. At $190 USD, the 3600 offers good value for purely workstation tasks such as film production but streamers should look elsewhere. Streaming with dedicated hardware such as NVENC or a separate stream PC will nearly always result in fewer dropped frames. The masterfully hyped Ryzen 3600 may well be the best CPU for multimedia producers on a tight budget but in today's market there are faster and less expensive alternatives for gamers, streamers and general desktop users. [Jun '19 CPUPro]

Great for GTX 1660 ti or below. Higbly do not recommend to pair this with any RTX GPU as the 3600 will bottleneck them noticeably. For instance, an RTX 2060 super will be utilized at 90% most of the time if paired with the 3600. For video editing it performs almost the same as the 8700k and the 9700k. All in all, you have to choose the right CPU depending on your own usage, not based on benchmarks or what other people recommend. Although significantly improved over previous generations, the 3600 is still picky with RAM and refuses to run the Corsair Vengeance LPX at the rated speed of 3200Mhz, only allowing it to run at 2933 MHz after long days of tweaking and testing for stability.—Dec '19

A value champion at 220EUR. Roughly as powerful as the 9600K (single and quad core) but it beats it on multi-core thanks to the multi-threading and is 20% less expensive. And for less than 200EUR, the 9400 is no match at all against it.

Might the best sub-200 USD CPU the average users can buy. Offering 16 very fast PCI-E 4.0 lanes (provided if you use the new AMD X570 motherboard) and 6 multithreaded cores at 200 USD, this CPU might be the best value for performance CPU ever today. This CPU offered similar or slightly lower, or more gaming performance than the comparable Intel i5-9600K or i5-9400F which makes this CPU worth even for gamer.

Excellent

So far, we're looking at roughly the average performance of an Intel Core i7-8700K at barely over half the price ($199 USD). If this holds up, AMD has a real winner on their hands and you'd have to be a fool to buy anything from Intel's overpriced product portfolio.

If you're after a good value, top-performing processor in 2019 then look no further. This is all of it, then some. You've got 6 cores with 12 threads, unlocked multipliers for overclocking and a tiny TDP rating. No integrated graphics, but you're gonna pair it with a beastly graphics card so who cares? I'm running mine on an X370 board, but B350 and even A320 boards will probably be just fine. The TDP sure itsn't an issue - just 65W apparently, with a boost clock of 4.2GHz bumping it just a tad further. While the included Wraith Stealth cooler is fine for the job, you'll find better cooling and clock speeds with an aftermarket one. I used my Cooler Master ML120L 120mm AIO and got rock solid 4.2GHz while gaming. No complaints here, especially seeing as they equal a 1700X in most multicore loads and match an 8700K in gaming. Seriously, if you're even halfway thinking about one of these just get it.

amazing value for streaming, 1080p gaming, and light content creation. with 6 cores and 12 threads, it is a sweet spot for gaming, and at the price of only $190, its value is off the charts. other amazing perks are the extra L3 cache, the newly made 7nm Zen2 architecture, and if you get an X570 mobo, you get PCIe gen4 support. sadly, the only graphics cards that have PCIe gen4 support are the new RX 5000 series cards, also from AMD, but there is an abundant amount of m.2 Nvme SSDs that supports it, most being VERY fast. all in all, it's an amazing value for 1080p gaming and streaming or even some light creatives.

If there is any better cpu till this day for better price to performance ratio it still would use more wattage per core.

Good

I picked one of these up for $195 and paired it and the included cooler with an X570 mobo. It's about equal to a stock i7 8700k but for considerably less money. There is not much to be gained by overclocking. However, enabling the Precision Boost Overdrive feature is easy and manages to squeeze out a little extra performance.
