Back in 2010 I bought a Core i7-930 to replace a C0 stepping Core i7-920 that wouldn't overclock at all. I disagree with the comment about it being like a Core 2 Quad with Hyperthreading because the i7-930 was/is a step above. It's not a good pick for today's computing needs, but if you just so happen to come across an x58 motherboard then a Xeon x5675 is the obvious choice anyway.

Don't be fooled by the "i7" name. It performs like a Core 2 Quad with Hyperthreading. Overall performance is fine, but the processor is so insanely power hungry that your power bill will actually take a small hit. Similar to FX processors, it is a glorified space heater with bad IPC.
