Good

It's definitely good enough for a budget PC I've recently built for low intensity, low wattage gaming, paired it with a GTX 950 and 8GB of 1600MHz C8 RAM and there's no bottlenecking whatsoever at 1080p. Stays relatively cool with the stock cooler, and isn't a very hot CPU anyway thanks to a low cache amount. That being said, 4 or 6MB would be nice, as in the 4370 which is a similar price these days, but the 4170 does the job and feels quite similar to a four threaded version of the Pentium G3240 I had in there before, though it should be noted that the Pentium I had did exceptionally well in comparison to the average (not OC'd so just a good bin) so it's probably much quicker in practice. Expanding from that, there's nothing stopping this CPU being overclockable if the motherboard supports BCLK tweaking, which mine doesn't. My verdict is that if you can find a 4370 for the same price (both retail for £25-30 in the UK second hand), then it'll be a more viable choice thanks to double the cache. However, if you get a good deal on one of these or a used prebuilt featuring it, it shouldn't be a problem and is speedy enough for desktop usage and 3D gaming alike, but don't confuse it with a true Quad-Core CPU, because in multi-threaded tasks it will always fall behind a similarly clocked i5, and a workstation CPU it most certainly is not.

Four years ago this would be nothing to joke about when it went on sale for $110, but now it's starting to show its age. A once budget-midrange processor is now pretty much a G4560
