Average Bench: 61.3% (560th of 1442)

Based on 81,111 user benchmarks.  Devices: BFEBFBFF000306C3, Model: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz

The Intel i5-4440 is one of the cheaper four core Haswell processors. Unfortunately it is clocked at just 3.3 GHz Turbo, which is 15% lower than the leading Haswell i5 and because it has a locked multiplier there is little that can be done about it. Comparing the 4440 to the 4670K shows that the 15% reduction in Turbo clock speed basically results in a 23% performance loss to the 4670K. The Pentium G3420 actually has a higher base clock speed and costs about a third as much as the i5-4440 yet for the majority of, single and dual-core, desktop orientated tasks offers comparable performance. I don't think the i5-4440 makes much sense and would prefer either a much stronger 4770 or the weaker but much better value G3420[Mar '14 CPUPro]

Disregard this website's recommendation -- When new, this processor made sense at 220€. The 4770 was some 100€ more expensive, and buying a Pentium and expecting future performance would be foolish at best. It is now 2020, 7 years after launch, and the 4440 has stood the test of time, as have all desktop quad core i5s from Sandy Bridge onward. In my build it leaves absolutely nothing to be desired. It does its work in CAD, Wolfram, Matlab, and several IDEs just as it did at launch: Spectacularly. Coupled with a modern graphics card (e.g. GTX 1660 Ti, Vega 64), this can, for the time being, still be a great core of a gaming or productivity station. For what it's worth, I don't see myself upgrading from this CPU until at least 2022. It was a very good investment in 2013, and just one of the stellar reminders why Intel has accumulated as much enthusiast market share as it has over the years since 2011.

didnt know that a 4th gen cpu is better than a 7th gen cpu

For an old CPU, this thing can still do a daily job. I have this boy on one of my laptops from a few years back and it still performs great for its age.

Excellent

Was the heart of my gaming pc, coupled with a GTX 960 SSC 4gb, 8gb dual channel ddr3 ram, 120gb ssd and 1tb hard drive, making an 2015'ish Gamer PC
