Intel’s tenth generation octa-core hyperthreaded i7-10700K is one of the fastest high-end desktop CPUs ever made. A simple overclock yields all 16 threads running at a staggering 5.1 GHz. Gaming and desktop performance is second only to the flagship i9-10900K. Although a new (Z490) LGA1200 motherboard is required, it will remain compatible with Rocket Lake CPUs which are due later this year. The 10700K’s $400 USD price tag puts it in a similar price band to AMD’s 12-core hyperthreaded Ryzen 9 3900X, however, the 10700K’s faster cores combined with its lower memory latency, yield a 12% effective speed advantage over the 3900X. Intra-generationally comparing the 10700K and 10600K shows that the 10600K offers almost identical gaming performance for 34% less money. [Jun '20 CPUPro]

MORE DETAILS

Intel’s Alder Lake i5-12400F offers six hyper-threaded performance cores at an MSRP of just $180 USD. This represents excellent value for consumers and, in particular, gamers. It has a boost frequency of 4.4 GHz, 18 MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 65W. The F-version of the CPU does not have integrated graphics, however this will be of little concern to gamers with discrete GPUs. Whilst Intel’s overclockable i5-12600K has four additional efficiency cores and offers around 12% more performance than the 12400F, it also costs around 50% more. The 12400F offers great value, but to achieve optimal performance the requisite B660 motherboard (which supports 3200+ RAM) is, at least for now, difficult to find at reasonable ($150 USD) prices. AMD’s top value hex-core Ryzen 5 5600X offers similar performance for 50% more money. Despite Intel’s price / performance lead, AMD’s prolific marketers (forums, youtube, reddit etc.) have historically outsold Intel whilst carrying a similar handicap. [Jan '22 CPUPro]

 Frequently Asked Questions

 Best User Rated

Why does UserBenchmark have a bad reputation on reddit?
Marketers operate thousands of reddit accounts. Our benchmarks expose their spiel so they attack our reputation.
Why don’t PC brands endorse UserBenchmark?
Brands make boatloads on flagships like the 4090 and 14900KS. We help users get similar real-world performance for less money.
Why don’t youtubers promote UserBenchmark?
We don't pay youtubers, so they don't praise us. Moreover, our data obstructs youtubers who promote overpriced or inferior products.
Why does UserBenchmark have negative trustpilot reviews?
The 200+ trustpilot reviews are mostly written by virgin marketing accounts. Real users don't give a monkey's about big brands.
Why is UserBenchmark the gold standard for users?
Instead of pursuing brands for sponsorship, we've spent 13 years publishing real-world data for users.
