Based on 121,821 user benchmarks.  Device: 178BFBFF00870F10 Model: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 12-Core Processor

Early Q3 of 2019 welcomes the Ryzen 9 3900X, AMD’s current top of the range, third generation Ryzen flagship which raises the bar for 64-core processing on desktop CPUs. This is AMD’s first Ryzen 9 processor and it is a 12-core, 24-thread CPU based on their latest 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture. The 3900X has a boost/base clock of 3.8/4.6 GHz, 64 MB of L3 cache (double the L3 on the rest of 3000 series), support for 3200 MHz DDR4 system memory and a TDP of 105W. All this, plus a Wraith Prism cooler, at a very reasonable launch price of $499 USD. By comparison, Intel’s 8-core, 16 thread i9-9900K is available for $479 USD (and requires a cooler: $30+ USD). Benchmarks illustrate that the overclocked 3900X leads by a whopping 41% for 64-core processing but that the 9900K maintains a 10% lead for gaming, desktop and other sub octa-core tasks. The 3900 memory controller is significantly improved over previous Ryzen iterations and shows a better write throughput than the lower spec 3000 models, but it still shows relatively high latency which can impact gaming. In terms of 64-core performance at this price point, there is no threat from Intel. The only real competitor is the upcoming (Q4, 2019) 16-core, 32-thread 3950X ($749 USD). The Ryzen 9 3900X is compatible with the new PCIe 4.0 enabled X570 motherboard via an AM4 socket, as well as 400 and 300 series motherboards. [Jul '19 CPUPro]

Latency aside, this is a powerful CPU. It also likes power 1.3v at 4.4 works for me with a X570 tomahawk. OCing ram is extremely important as well for this.

Dunno why but its unstable, crashed occasionally. Been experience crashing since a4, a9, a12, even ryzen 5 The only aspect AMD win over Intel is the pricing. Its a good thing for consumer, let them fight till intel slash their price

Offering 12 multithreaded cores while using the consumer AM4 socket isn't an easy feat. This consumer multithreaded monster is faster than the preceding AMD TR 2920X in term of both single and multithreaded performance. However, you'll get lower amount of total PCI-E lanes than the preceding AMD TR 2920X but is balanced with use of the newer PCI-E 4.0 interface which is as twice as fast as the older PCI-E 3.0. For pure gamers, suggested to opt for Intel Core i9-9900K instead which offered better gaming performance and better overclocking headroom for your very high FPS gaming.

For what it is made for it does its job very well. 12 cores with strong clockspeeds makes it great for server and multitasking jobs.

What can I say? I want this CPU so bad. I plan on buying it once I graduate from college. I don't game as much as I used to, and mainly need a powerful CPU for Premier Pro, Lightroom, and Photoshop. I know intel is better at photoshop and Lightroom but with a bit of overclocking this is fine, and the premier pro performance is just so far ahead of 9900K

It has very good balance between professional work and playing games. I would buy it if were younger. I sold my PC in order to buy laptop for office and BI work. it is not so powerfull in numbers, but it is fine. It is so cool that you don't need to run to the shop after new hardware part upgrade :). If you can play few favourite games on laptop, then your time has come to go for laptop.

I am an experienced computer technician and avid gamer. I play War Thunder with my RTX 2080 ti and I have all the graphics settings maxed. It performs incredibly well and is just as good as Intel in my opinion at gaming. From what I hear new games are going to be more multi-thread oriented than they are now so soon AMD will have the lead in gaming performance. I highly recommend this processor for any task you need powerful processing power at a reasonable price. You can't go wrong with Intel or AMD. At the moment both companies are producing very good CPU's and it's nice to know that either way you go your going to be impressed.

What a great time to be building a PC. AMD is showing Intel that complacency doesn't keep business, and users are repeating the benefits of this newly rekindled competition. If the 3900X is an indication of the next few years, Intel will soon be the one playing catch-up.
