amazon doesn't even say what socket type it is

I can only suggest checking the socket type "before" you order it. XD Replaced an old I7 920 with this after hearing it is a low-end gaming CPU. Once clocked at 4 GHz it sprang to life. Mine cost £37 ($50) so a lot of bang for only a few bucks. It's socket LGA1366, 6 cores, 12 threads, and a 12MB cache
