The FX-8370E is an energy efficient Vishera eight core desktop processor based on AMD’s Piledriver architecture. It was launched in September 2014 and is the energy efficient version of the FX-8370 boasting a lower TDP of 95 Watts versus 125 Watts on the FX-8370. Comparing the 8370E and 8370 shows that the lower TDP comes at a cost: the 8370E scores a relatively lacklustre effective speed of 73 compared to the non-E version which scores 83. The lower score is consistent with the relative clock speeds: 3.3 GHz on the 8370E versus 4.0 GHz on the 8370. Priced the same as the 8370, there is a direct choice between being green or speedy. Or, if you don’t really need the above average multi-threaded performance that the 8370E offers, then you may be better off with the superb single-threaded performance from any number of Intel’s offerings.
