The Intel i5-4200U is a dual core 4th generation Haswell processor. Specifically designed for tablets and ultrabooks it gives the appropriate balance between performance and battery life. The i5-4200U has integrated HD 4400 graphics which are fine for desktop use but not suited to 3D gaming. With an impressive TDP of just 15 Watts, the 4200U will typically give 6 hours of battery life. Despite the low effective speed of 56 which is 70% below the average of the leaders, when coupled with an SSD the 4200U can give a reasonable user experience. Comparing the 4200U and 4500U shows that the 4500U has 20% faster single-core performance but also costs 40% more. [Nov '14 CPUPro]

MORE DETAILS

The Intel i5-3317U is a dual core, four thread, 3rd generation Ivy Bridge netbook and laptop processor. It launched in Q2 2012, and has since been succeeded by the i5-4200U which is a 4th generation Haswell (2013) processor. Comparing the 4200U and 3317U shows that, for 20% more money, the i5-4200U has a 10% faster effective speed and a 12% lower TDP. This is due to the newer and improved Haswell architecture. The TDP of 17 Watts should yield over 5 hours of battery life for average use. Like most mobile processors, the effective speed of 51.1 is poor, however, it's okay for handling the majority of day to day processing activities. The i5-3317U also has onboard HD Graphics 4000 which is sufficient for typical desktop use. [Nov '14 CPUPro]

 Frequently Asked Questions

 Best User Rated

Why does UserBenchmark have a bad reputation on reddit?
Marketers operate thousands of reddit accounts. Our benchmarks expose their spiel so they attack our reputation.
Why don’t PC brands endorse UserBenchmark?
Brands make boatloads on flagships like the 4090 and 14900KS. We help users get similar real-world performance for less money.
Why don’t youtubers promote UserBenchmark?
We don't pay youtubers, so they don't praise us. Moreover, our data obstructs youtubers who promote overpriced or inferior products.
Why does UserBenchmark have negative trustpilot reviews?
The 200+ trustpilot reviews are mostly written by virgin marketing accounts. Real users don't give a monkey's about big brands.
Why is UserBenchmark the gold standard for users?
Instead of pursuing brands for sponsorship, we've spent 13 years publishing real-world data for users.
