The third gen Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770K can't really be described as a consumer orientated processor. With 8 threads and four cores its capabilities are better aligned to server use. For price insensitive consumers that want the best of the best, this is currently one of the fastest processors available. The PassMark Single Thread score of 2080 points put the 3770K right at the top of the pack in terms of raw processing power and real world performance. The GeekBench and PassMark scores of 17210 and 9653 are within 20% or so of the best we have ever seen. Despite the near record breaking processing throughputs the 3770K is only rated at 77 TDP, which is also very reasonable by historical standards. For typical consumer use there are better value propositions out there. [May '13 CPUPro]

The i5-7600K targets high end gamers, it sits just behind the flagship i7-7700K in Intel’s Kaby Lake lineup. The 7600K will likely be the most popular gaming CPU of 2017 (some competition from AMD’s upcoming Zen/Ryzen CPUs, would be very welcome). Comparing the 7600K and 6600K shows that the two processors are very closely matched and comparing the 7600K vs the hyper-threaded 7700K highlights the relative strength of the 7700K for workstation performance. There are no significant architectural differences between Kaby Lake and Skylake so, when fully overclocked, the two generations should perform similarly but Kaby Lake offers faster base clocks, improved speed shift technology which helps CPU responsiveness, and better integrated graphics[Jan '17 CPUPro]

Processor Rankings (Price vs Performance) October 2017 CPU Rankings.

Welcome to our desktop CPU comparison. We calculate effective speed which measures real world performance for typical consumers. Effective speed is adjusted by price to yield a value for money rating which is geared towards gamers. Calculated values don't always paint the whole picture so we check them against hundreds of individual user ratings. The customizable table below combines these factors and more to bring you the definitive list of top CPUs. [CPUPro]
