The Intel Core i5-4690K is the latest incremental upgrade to Intel's unlocked mid-range quad core family of processors. The 4690K replaces the 4670K. Comparing the 4690K and 4670K shows that little has changed. The two chips share identical architecture; in fact the only difference between them is a 100 MHz bump to both the base and turbo clocks. The 100 MHz bump translates to an insignificant 2.9% performance increase. In terms of outright performance the 4690K has an effective speed of 103 which thanks to its superb single and dual core performance, is 12% stronger than the average of the group leaders. Possibly the best CPU that I have had personally. Had to change the fan because the guy who built my PC didn't apply the thermal paste properly (nor any good paste), but with CM Hyper 212 EVO (not even the best cooler tbh) I keep mine oc'd to 4.5 GHz during winter.

A bit old now, but can save you a few coins if you cant or dont want to get a Skylake chip, plus you can overclock this beast so you can throw any GPU you want at it. For gaming, its a no brainer.

when overclocked to 4.0 GHz it becomes the "beast" Only on GTA 5 it reaches 100% load (Only on populated areas). But, Paired with a GTX 980 this thing still kills Tripple A titles!
