PS: this is my first UBM post from over a year ago at this point) The Core i9-9820x is kind of like the i7-7820XE (Extreme Edition). As it has 2 more cores and 4 more threads. Comparing the 7820x to the 9820x shows a 2% performance boost. However, the multi-core speed is 23% faster. As to be expected for 2 more cores and 4 more threads. The 9820x is actually 1% slower in the overclocked bench! In my opinion, this should be called a i7-9820 Extreme Edition as it is the first ever i9 ending with 820x. The other 820x's are i7's. So this is more of a Extreme Edition i7 than it is a i9. If i were to be forced to call it a i9, i would probably say it to be the slowest i9 ever (apart from the 9900K). So 7820x users, don't upgrade, it's not worth it. Unless you actually need the extra 2 cores and 4 threads. [Jul '20 CrylicArk]

MORE DETAILS

Intel’s Core i7-9700K is an unlocked 9th generation Coffee Lake CPU. It is an 8 core, 8 thread processor. The 9700K features 12 MB of cache, a 95W TDP and Intel UHD 630 graphics. Like the other 9th generation chips, it is compatible with Intel’s new Z390 chipset as well as last years Z370 chipset (with an updated BIOS). The 9700K has stock base / boost clocks of 3.6 / 4.6 GHz and a single core boost of 4.9 GHz (compared to 3.6, 4.7 and 5.0 GHz for the flagship 9900K). This translates to almost identical single, quad and octa core performance between the 9900K and 9700K. Mainstream PC games do not benefit from more than six threads, so at $350 (25% cheaper than the 9900K), the 9700K offers far better value for money to gamers. That said gamers have very little reason not to consider the i5-9600K which, when overclocked, offers almost equivalent performance but at a 35% discount[Oct '18 CPUPro]
