Average Bench: 69% (422nd of 1442)

Based on 144,475 user benchmarks.  Device: 178BFBFF00800F11 Model: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-Core Processor

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 is the least powerful of three new Ryzen 7 CPUs. The 1700 model has base and turbo clocks of 3.0 and 3.7 GHz respectively. Both of its more expensive siblings, the 1700X and 1800X, have higher clocks but they also have TDPs of 95 watts whereas the 1700 is rated at just 65 watts. Comparing IPC between Ryzen and Kaby Lake shows that Kaby Lake leads by a maximum of 9% which is great news for workstation users as this allows the 1700 to beat Intel's 6850K in multi-core workloads at almost half the price. Although the 1700 has great IPC it's somewhat limited by its relatively low (by Kaby Lake standards) clock speed which holds it back a little in both gaming and desktop workloads. For multi-core workstation use, the Ryzen 7 1700 represents the best value for money we have ever seen. [Mar '17 CPUPro]

Above average average bench

The AMD Ryzen 7 1700 averaged 30.9% lower than the peak scores attained by the group leaders. This isn't a great result which indicates that there are much faster alternatives on the comparison list.

A landmark increase in processor performance...

Absolutely amazing price for value, probably the very best buy I ever made for a CPU (I bought it in march 2027). Overclocking capability is not bad, easily reaching 3.6 GHz without overvolting now. Also a very good CPU for servers, and of course, the fact that it can be upgraded to a more recent AM4 compatible CPU provided you also bought a high end motherboard makes it one of the best CPU AMD has ever made.

My favourite! So much power for your money and only 65W. This is the best deal on the world market. With this processor you can do all you want to do very fast and with pleasure - gaming, working, multimedia, all! This 8C/16T can be very well overclocked and are on the new platform. With this Ryzen you are ready for the future and there is no need to sell your house to buy R7 1700.—Mar '17

Good for benchmarks that use all the threads. Lacks performance while using single, dual and quad core programs. A lot of cores but not that fast. Next gen intel probably will have 6 core cpus much faster than r7 ryzens even in multi threaded tasks. You save time rendering videos and compressing files but lose performance in gaming, real time applications, like audio DAWS, photo and video editing, regular day tasks. While spending a few more minutes gives the same result while rendering, there is nothing you can do to make this thing have a faster response when needed.

OC at 3.89 makes this far and away your best bang for your buck. Intel's most similar offering is triple the price, while AMD's flagship CPU; Ryzen 7 1800X priced at 50% more, barely eeks out any additional performance. Ryzen 7 1700 surpassed all of my expectations.

This processor will have a good longevity I consider it a good option even in 2020, it reaches up to 3.6 ghz with a standard overclock suitable for novice users.

What can I say, for 500$ , a 8core CPU with cooler + motherboard + 8GB 3000 Ghz ram... a litle overclock, and ... waow , what a value, and good for workstation works...

Good

Amazing value easily overclocks to 3.7ghz-3.9ghz. May not even need to upgrade the stock cooler as its more then enough for a mild overclock.

It's a very cheap and powerful 8-core CPU. It has basically the same frequency as the 1800x when overclocking.

Excellent

Its a good value for money. For my workload I need more cores and thats why i chose Ryzen. Also overclocking is not hard with Ryzen master. Single core rank can be higher, but still its a very powerfull piece with freat sustainability.

easy oc to 3.7Ghz with a bit of tuning got to 3.8, bios still could use some work on my mobo as I'm still only pushing 2667mhz on 3200mhz rated sticks from corsair. For anyone looking at a system that's more than just a gaming rig this CPU is a major contender with great price performance.

I got this back March of 2018. 8 cores and 16 threads for $194 is a steal! I can overclock it to 4Ghz for improved single-core performance, and it comes with a decent stock cooler (that I'm currently not using since I already had a Hyper 212 Evo on hand). I see it constantly see it on sale for $200 at major retailers (e.g. Amazon, Newegg). It's an offer that's hard to pass up for anyone who needs/wants many cores and threads at a very affordable price.
