The Core i7-7700K is Intel’s flagship Kaby Lake based CPU which is reported to have the same IPC as its predecessor, Skylake. Comparing the 7700K and 6700K shows that both average effective speed and peak overclocked speed are up by 7%. Most of the increase in average effective speed is explained by the 5% boost in base clocks from 4.0 to 4.2 GHz. The improved peak lab speed is attributable to a combination of better overclocking capacity and improvements in Intel’s speedshift technology which make the 7700K slightly more responsive. Kaby Lake also has marginally better HD 630 integrated graphics. The i7-7700K is priced similarly to the i7-6700K so for top end gaming and workstation builds, the 7700K is the clear choice for 2017. AMD’s Ryzen architecture is due for release later this year so things could change at that time. [Jan '17 CPUPro]

The Intel Core i5-4690K is the latest incremental upgrade to Intel's unlocked mid-range quad core family of processors. The 4690K replaces the 4670K. Comparing the 4690K and 4670K shows that little has changed. The two chips share identical architecture; in fact the only difference between them is a 100 MHz bump to both the base and turbo clocks. The 100 MHz bump translates to an insignificant 2.9% performance increase. In terms of outright performance the 4690K has an effective speed of 103 which thanks to its superb single and dual core performance, is 12% stronger than the average of the group leaders. Overall the 4690K brings nothing new to the table so owners of previous flagship i5's will gain little by upgrading but as a new purchase the 4690K is a strong contender for both power users and high end gamers. [Jul '14 CPUPro]

Processor Rankings (Price vs Performance) February 2017 CPU Rankings.

Welcome to our desktop CPU comparison. We calculate effective speed which measures real world performance for typical consumers. Effective speed is adjusted by price to yield a value for money rating which is geared towards gamers. Calculated values don't always paint the whole picture so we check them against hundreds of individual user ratings. The customizable table below combines these factors and more to bring you the definitive list of top CPUs. [CPUPro]
