Average Bench: 55.2% (676th of 1442)

Based on 261,607 user benchmarks.  Device: 178BFBFF00600F20 Model: AMD FX(tm)-6300 Six-Core Processor

The FX 6-Core, like most CPUs from AMD, delivers reasonably good server orientated multi threaded performance and consequently good processing thoughput at a reasonable price tag. Where the FX 6-Core lacks is in the area of single core performance which although not normally a major problem for server workloads, is always very relevant to desktop users. The overall performance of the FX 6-Core is comparable to Intel's five years younger Core i7-950. There are server orientated use cases where the FX 6-Core will excel thanks to its excellent overall throughput and in those instances the FX 6-Core represents good value for money. But typical desktop users will find far better value elsewhere[Sep '13 CPUPro]

This CPU has the best longevity. Paired with 970 Extreme4 which has 4+1 vrm configuration, it still handles overclock like a champ. OC'ed mine to 4.4 Ghz @ 1.3375 V and stable like a rock. But the temp will go crazy like 64 Celcius max so I toned down to 4.2 Ghz @ 1.3250 V

still got mine with a strix 970, 4.1 ghz clock will do 5ghz but mobo don't like anything over 4.1(cheap) it turns off after an hour or so I need a better a one currently have a 6700k strix o8g 1080 but don't want to get rid of my amd pc. Better mobo to get the 5ghz clock oc the 970 as well should still be good for a couple of years. FX 6300 OC`s easy but so does my 6700k put it straight to 5ghz too then backed off to 4.9 till water cooling arrives so its at 4.5ghz, compared to amd its a heater but they run 70-80c normal so is ok hell mine is at 34c idle fx is way cooler and wont like operating at 70+

i7 920 could beat him on stock frequencies but in price to performance it can beat some of the modern cpus.

From £65 new to drop in a cheap AM3+ board you can't go wrong on a budget. This does everything well for the price. If you get a quality 990FX mobo and add a decent cooler this thing will overclock like you wouldn't believe making a useful CPU still in 2017.

Runs extremely hot. This was my old CPU, before I updated to an R5 1500X. The 6 Cores don't really made themselves known, even when rendering video. It would take nearly 45 minutes to render a 20 minute video at 1080p60. My new ryzen chip cuts that in half. In all honesty, this chip is just old and tired. If you can get it for suuuuuper cheap, and are going to overclock the hell out of it, go for it. But if you're looking to build a first PC, go with an intel chip of the same year or newer, or a new ryzen chip.

Very good

This CPU has the best performance/price ratio (12.2012-12.2016)!! I am using it since 2012, and at that time for the price of FX-6300, Intel had Pentium G2120 to offer (in Germany). Comparing with G2120, this CPU is best for general purpose multitasking as well as gaming (with overclocking). Highly recommended. However considering the recent CPUs, Pentium G4520 (with same price tag 95€) has 1.7 times better single core performance.

it was a good mid-tier CPU for people getting into PC's

Very good processor, specially due to his price.

This CPU might seem underpowered, but it's insanely easy to overclock. I personally was able to get away with a staggering 4085MHz on stock cooling, when changing the VCore to 1.3v manually. Bear in mind, the stock voltage is 1.375v, which adds heat. Not only was I able to overclock on stock cooling, I was able to enable Core Performance Boost levels 1 AND 2. Not to mention the fact that Cool 'n' Quiet is enabled, and is working fully. I see ~1500MHz values with 0.825v when sitting idle. Overclocking Results:. 0 - 4085MHz | 1.300v. 1 - 4192MHz | 1.337v. 2 - 4300MHz | 1.375v. Bus speed was increased to 215MHz. Thermals: Thermals were actually very nice despite the fact that is on stock cooling. Under full Level 2 CPB on one core, the cpu reached roughly 59C. Under full load on all cores, reverting to base clock, the CPU reaches 64C. It's close to the Tj max, but not enough to constitute throttling. Nice job, AMD. This CPU has remained stable for almost two straight years, one of which it has spent overclocked. I'd love to see Intel CPU's attempt to keep a stable overclock with TurboBoost and SpeedStep enabled. Oh? They can't? Well, I guess I'm lucky.
